fresh from the success of their past / present / future release, we march on, with berlin-based italian christopher ledger the man responsible for their labels 41st release. the percezione and retrospettiva ep sees ledger in flying form, as he props up with two dexterous, thoughtfully executed records that speak volume of his ability to craft atmospheric sounds. opening up the release is the sounds of retrospettiva 2, a future leaning techno jam that again wonderfully fits the brouqade aesthetic. clearly indebted to sci-fi spheres, this one is very much cut from a detroit cloth, with a steely finesse that lurks from the get go. a track that brings the listener on an endless journey, it comes some deep harmonic vibes. all things told, this is an ep of various contrasting sounds, ledgers debut for brouqade is a stunning example of what can happen when producers think outside the box. the b side consists of percezione attiva. harmonic, blissful tones abound throughout, made all the more meaningful by a slew of gentle, melancholic piano chords that really pull on the heartstrings. a light and hazy experimental piece, the track forces parallels with other masters of suspense. culminating with a more traditional 4/4 vibe, this unusual turn only enhances the producers standing as a man willing to take risks.

shadowy multidisciplinary artist & videographer denial.of.service returns to film for an extended ep of wrought iron electronics, channeling the spirit of classic electro, industrial & noise. the artist, active since the 1980s producing video work for a host of high profile names - including not least david bowie, currently transmits sporadically from an undisclosed location, though contemporary work has appeared on the creators project, as well as making the vimeo staff picks on an almost regular basis. recently, video commissions for minimal wave & jealous god affiliate in aeternam vale have ap-peared online, showcasing the artists trademark crushed, hallucinatory visual aesthetic.
oberst & buchner are next up on freeride millenium and the two bavaria born, vienna based producers deliver an ep that offers their interpretation of what modern summer togetherness sounds like. the talented pair started making music together aged 15 and aim to cook up emotionally driven jams. they do so on labels like heimlich, underyourskin records, schönbrunner perlen, lokd, and always get the juices going, as they do once again here. beginning with the brilliant greg we dive into a breakbeat bath of summery chords as playful claves dance on the horizon. it is a melodically rich track with spiritual feelings that really bliss you out. on the moodier emile night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles that reflect rays of light. it s a perfectly jazzy and loose number that really suspends you in a rueful place. last but not least, embrace is a fluid intergalactic convention with sparse drum kicks weighed down by sombre synths. a skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths adding colour, and overall it has the same zoned out feel as a thousand-yard stare. this is a brilliant mood ep that mixes up the synthetic with the organic, creating some fascinating grooves as a result. the release once again features original artwork from the ever talented daniel rajcsanyi. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

the second part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings three more productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe.
the song sika by georges décimus, bass player of desvarieuxs band kassav, features outer-national synth works driven by salsa-like percussions and sweet steel-drum melodies, dancing around the seducing zouk guitar chords of desvarieux. a truely moving psychedelic zouk gem, that is for the first available on vinyl only since its release on georges décimuss solo debut mini-album la vie in 1983.
the second song avèou doudou was firstly released in 1985 and was written by the martinique born zouk star and former kassav keyboarder jean-claude naimro. his tune spreads feathery synth-laden caribean boogy vibes, enlarged by his tempting voice and more zouk guitar magic by desvarieux. the third gem comes from the zouk pioneer patrick saint-éloi, listens to the name do bay lan main, was never re-released since 1984, features the former kassav singer saint-éloi on the microphone, electric piano, organ and mini moog and gets once again softly heated by jacob f. desvarieuxs enchanting zouk guitar virtuosity. as already on the jacob f. desvarieux: anthology pt 1. release, japanese producer for special affairs kuniyuki delivers a unique edit. his version of sika is made for eternalness dance floor moments. the steel drums dance with more magic than in the original. propelled by spaced out synth-sounds, echoed drums and the discreet guitar chords of desvarieux, kuniyukis version of sika is ready to be a mind-expanding summer hit on all open minded dancefloors around the globe.

there is enough brilliance to choose from, but it all starts with 15 minutes of superiority on the 5x3 loop tracks on the a-side with that typical sleeparchive sound. all containing disturbing drums followed by upperclass sequences which keeps on going.

from time to time, you hear an ep and instantly can sense that its going to be significant. sad girl seasonal affective disorder does what few manage to do - it tells us not only a story from different perspectives but describes the journey of the heart and mind when losing someone we love - the conflicting emotions when we hurt and the evolution of emotions we experience as we heal. it achieves this by using a rich and diverse collection of sounds as its vocabulary, and a brilliant integration and structure as its grammar. also, this strategy manages to give each track its unique character, allowing them to stand on their own.

new years deal - two years after the milestone somewhere compilations, something happening somewhere is commemorating the times that have passed, returning with a new chapter in the series. selecting unique pieces of artists known and less known, the somewhere series continue their sound based confessional. telling unheard stories, exposing unseen surfaces and unheard sounds.
somewhere iii is set to be released as two vinyl samplers, with a selection of the tracks featured in the full digital compilations, which will feature four extra digital only tracks. a host of familiar sohaso figures make an appearance, but there is also room for new faces like aril brikha, kaap, ripperton in his stunning collab with love over entropy, equus, tracey and mulder. every artist on this somewhere iii compilation is expressing their unique experience through sound waves, telling stories and uncovering a piece of themselves. there are things radiating in the violet fog, waiting to be discovered. journeys that are worth making, but will not necessarily provide any more answers. something is happening somewhere, once again. love over entropy teaming up with ripperton, could we wish for more? it felt like a dream team combo before we even heard the resulting beauty of saints de glace. inspired by those last nightly frosts of spring days in may, it sounds exactly like those contrasting temperatures and feelings. down tempo organic grooves and a drifting melody that ebbs in and out of consciousness provide disparity with the glimmering pads that lure in the night air waiting to catch you off guard.

Something Happening Somewhere
the first release on youth - a new label from andrew lyster, comes from portland based artist yard. hailing from the dark woods of the west coast of the united states, yard brings together a collection of tracks from the archives alongside some new material. canopy and white fog were originally released on the album deciduous flood plains, and have been reworked for this release. marshall acid is pressed to vinyl for the first time having previously only been available digitally via event horizon. yards gritty sound evokes a spectrum of gnarled city life to organic atmospheres. the release comprises of field recordings, micro-cassette mangles, bass kicks, a live jam between x0xb0x and a modded tr-606 and water drops percolating through the mixes to get that urban hum and grit running up against the forest.

the 12th installment in the falling ethics series is an adventurous piece of work. tensal and p.e.a.r.l. team up on this split ep to showcase their production styles which are mainly built around crafty drum loops and buoyant synth experiments.
tensal takes care of the a-side where he takes care of one flaming techno cut for the dancefloor which is followed up by two adventurous pieces of electronica.
p.e.a.r.l. also took care of three cuts on the b-side. the opening track joy of rapture is a straight forward demonstration of machine heavy techno. fall before you is a deep and soul wrenching cut that showcases p.e.a.r.l.s more delicate side. red flame is a piece of horror reminiscent ambient.

conrad van orton debuts on attic music for the 15th installment of label. hypersomnia is a collection of haunting techno tracks that sit on the darker side of the genres spectrum without loosing its dance floor appeal.
the 4 track spanning record opens up with the title track hypersomnia though techno sounds that revolve around a train-like whistle that repeats throughout the tracks poignantbuild. green eyes is an intrusive piece of work that closes down the a-side with its intense synth works. on the b side we find iteration. this growling piece of music has an almost live sounding quality to it. ending point is the toughest piece of work of the record which revolves around a fierce bass sound and a potent drum work.

a selection of forgotten demos by band hymn, active 1981-1984, with multi-talented musician and post-punk pioneer lucas trouble (2016) in the lineup. dition of 400 numbered copies. hand stamped sleeve. includes insert with photos, artwork and liner notes. all the tracks were originally self-released as demo tapes in a very limited run. their first work, coming home, was published in 1983, and the second one, too many lies, in 1984. both of them were distributed by the band themselves. shortly after, they released a more widely known 12 ep, tired (nova express, 1984), with a different line-up and noticeably more rock-oriented. definers of a totally genuine sound, hymn were coevals to the underground-synth-post-punk movement that surfaced in france in the early eighties, easily recognisable today via cult labels such as bain total and invisible/scopa records, with stunning releases by experimental references like ilitch, philippe doray or incontinents.

fever am comes from a berlin connection between a pair of artists with roots on either side of the mediterranean sea and on both sides of the atlantic. label founders mor elian and rhyw (one half of cassegrain) share many musical reference points reaching back to early childhood right up to the present including the deeper, darker reaches of electronic music. the label is the pairs rawest and truest realisation of these influences.
the first ep will be from elian, a sublime 4 tracker that has matured after a winter in the studio and is now ready for club play - from heating up peak time dance floors to trippier after hours moments. sprinkling her trademark stripped back sound with electro and breakbeats the release sets out the labels stall to release vibrant, challenging dance floor music.

during the mid-1970s, the aggrovators could do no wrong. this ace team of session musicians that was forged as an off-shoot of the soul syndicate were responsible for some of the biggest hits of the decade, recorded with bunny lees rising stars, such as johnnie clarke and his rival, cornell campbell. following on from the great shalom dub set of 1975, rasta dub 76 is another truly magnificent dub set culled from aggrovators hits (by johnny clarke, cornell campbell and others), this time, the entire album was given a scintillating mix-down at king tubbys studio by the great prince jammy, and the sonic excellence has stood the test of time. another must-have for all connoisseurs of dub.

cementing his reputation as the star toaster with the small but popular el paso sound system, based in the waltham park area, dennis alcapone was one of the first deejays to rise to prominence following u roys breakthrough in the late 1960s. born dennis smith in the rural district of culloden, he became immersed in sound system culture after settling in western kingston. once el paso became big on the sound system circuit, dental technician-turned-producer keith hudson brought him into the studio for his debut recordings, which led to a debut album for studio one and hit material for duke reid, some cut in concert with his deejay sparring partner, lizzy. alcapones longstanding links with bunny lee yielded the excellent guns dont argue album, first issued in 1972, on which the toaster raps with style over some of lees all-time greatest rhythms, including delroy wilsons better must come, john holts left with a broken heart and slim smiths rendition of the temptations soul classic aint too proud to beg.
